2008 was a late, cool and classic vintage, saved by a sunny turnaround in September. After a wet and difficult summer, the sun returned just in time to allow slow and full ripening in the best sites. Reds are taut and elegant, sometimes austere when young. Whites are excellent, with great precision and noble acidity.

By Region
Burgundy: fresh, fine reds; taut, outstanding chardonnays
Bordeaux: classic vintage, expressive cabernet franc and sauvignon
Rhône Valley: cool, elegant north; more variable south
Loire: excellent dry whites, light and digestible reds
Alsace: superb rieslings, firm acidity, dry profile
Champagne: late harvest, brilliant base wines, perfect acid balance

Worth Noting
2008 was a pleasant surprise after a challenging summer. The wines are fine, racy, and age-worthy, particularly in white and Champagne.
