Maranges 1er Cru covers about 130 hectares across several climats on the best-exposed slopes of Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges, and Sampigny-lès-Maranges. The vineyards are planted on stony clay-limestone soils, often on steep south and southeast-facing slopes. Pinot Noir here produces wines that are more structured and deeper than the village-level Maranges. The color is intense ruby. The nose offers aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, and forest floor. On the palate, Maranges 1er Cru impresses with its density, pronounced minerality, freshness, and ability to age gracefully for 8 to 15 years.
Food pairings
Perfect with roasted duck with spices, leg of lamb, or aged Brie de Meaux.
Good to know
Thanks to its combination of altitude and exposure, Maranges 1er Cru delivers wines that are both fleshy and elegant, among the most promising in the southern Côte de Beaune.
Signature
Maranges 1er Cru expresses fruity depth, mineral freshness, and the noble authenticity of southern Burgundy’s finest terroirs.
