Chablis 1er Cru covers about 780 hectares on the best-exposed slopes along both banks of the Serein River. The soils are Kimmeridgian marl and limestone, rich in marine fossils. Chardonnay here produces pale, luminous wines with fine aromas of white flowers, ripe citrus, peach, and flinty notes. On the palate, Chablis 1er Cru wines show marked mineral tension, beautiful aromatic complexity, and a persistent saline finish.
