Laherte Frères, based in Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, is one of the most dynamic and respected estates of Champagne’s new generation. Led by Aurélien Laherte, the domaine embraces a highly artisanal, terroir driven and parcel specific approach. The vineyards, farmed biodynamically or organically, span Chavot, Épernay, Vaudancourt, Moussy, Morangis and Vertus, with an unusually broad palette of grape varieties including meunier, chardonnay, pinot noir and heritage grapes such as arbane, petit meslier and pinot blanc. Vinification relies on indigenous yeasts, with élevage in barrels, foudres or tanks, low sulfur and minimal dosage. The wines show fresh apple, pear, yellow fruit, ripe citrus, white flowers, wet chalk and sometimes gentle spice or herbal infusion. The palate is vibrant, pure and vertical, with fine bubbles, marked tension and a saline finish. Laherte’s style is lively, precise and luminous, expressing terroir with sincerity and depth.
