Thomas Batardière, based in Rablay sur Layon in the Anjou Noir, is one of the leading young voices of Loire chenin blanc, crafting wines of purity, vitality and precision. After working with key figures of natural and biodynamic wine, he founded his domaine in 2012 on schist, quartz and volcanic soils farmed biodynamically with extreme care. Yields are low, ripeness finely judged, fermentations spontaneous and élevage long in barrels or demi muids. Cuvées such as Les Beaugrands and Le Parc have become benchmarks for their clarity and intensity. The wines show ripe lemon, quince, fresh apple, white flowers, warm stone and faint smoky notes. The palate is linear, saline, deep and vibrant, driven by firm mineral tension. The Batardière style is pure, energetic and terroir expressive.
