Château Gruaud Larose is one of the great classical estates of Saint Julien, defined by its dark depth, firm structure and almost aristocratic presence. The vineyard lies on Günzian gravel mixed with clay, a terroir that gives cabernet sauvignon steady ripeness and a strong tannic backbone. The style of Gruaud Larose is marked by powerful aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum, fine leather, cedar, graphite, noble forest floor and sometimes truffle or gentle spice. The palate is broad and enveloping, shaped by firm yet refined tannins and a slow building density. The wine has a baroque dimension, ample and resonant, yet always balanced by the freshness typical of the greatest Saint Julien terroirs. With age, it becomes more silky, noble and nuanced, revealing a harmonious architecture and calm depth.
