Terroir and style
Hermitage rises over the Rhône on a legendary hill composed of decomposed granite, mica schist, loess and glacial gravel. This complex geology gives birth to one of the most profound and noble expressions of Syrah. Reds show blackberry, cassis, violet, pepper, black olive, graphite, leather and smoky notes. The palate is powerful, dense and structured, yet balanced by vibrant minerality. Whites from Marsanne and Roussanne reveal light honey, pear, almond, white flowers and a broad, silky texture. The overall style is majestic, long lived and deeply expressive.

Food pairing
Hermitage pairs beautifully with game, roasted lamb, braised meats, mushrooms, rich sauces and, for the whites, lobster, creamy poultry dishes and aged cheeses.

Good to know
Legend has it that knight Gaspard de Sterimberg retired as a hermit on this hill in the thirteenth century, giving the appellation its name. Hermitage remains one of the world’s most ageworthy and revered wines.

Signature
Hermitage expresses the sovereign character of Syrah with monumental depth and mineral intensity.
