Henri Giraud, based in Aÿ, is one of Champagne’s most distinctive and luxurious domaines, famed for its deep commitment to Argonne oak and an intensely artisanal, hedonistic approach. Aÿ Grand Cru pinot noir forms the backbone of the style, often complemented by ripe, dense chardonnay. The domaine works without stainless steel, favoring wood and terracotta, with indigenous yeasts, long ageing and a deliberate, carefully managed use of new Argonne oak from a forest the estate helped revive. The wines show intense aromas of ripe yellow fruits, peach, red berries, honey, sweet spices, roasted hazelnut, beeswax and warm chalk. The palate is broad, enveloping and creamy, with marked salinity and impressive length. Henri Giraud’s style is rich, sensual, complex and deeply gastronomic, standing apart in the Champagne landscape.
