Benoît Déhu, based in Fossoy in the Vallée de la Marne, is one of the most distinctive and gifted growers in modern Champagne. Working biodynamically on tiny parcels, he has built a reputation for a Burgundian approach to winemaking, focused largely on pinot meunier and on extremely detailed, parcel driven expression. Fermentations are done with indigenous yeasts in barrels, élevage is long, dosage is zero and intervention minimal. The wines show ripe apple, red berries, yellow flowers, candied citrus, wet chalk and sometimes subtle smoky or spicy notes from perfectly integrated oak. The palate is broad, energetic and very pure, with fine bubbles, marked minerality and a tension that drives the finish. La Rue des Noyers, made entirely from meunier, has become a reference cuvée for its depth and refinement. Déhu’s style is precise, luminous and sincere, with quiet intensity and clear terroir expression.
