Philipponnat, based in Mareuil sur Aÿ, is an historic Champagne house renowned for its noble, profound expression of pinot noir, epitomized by the iconic Clos des Goisses. The vineyards, farmed sustainably with a strong parcel based approach, span Mareuil, Aÿ, Avenay Val d’Or and Mutigny, with pinot noir dominant and chardonnay providing finesse. Chalk rich, steep slopes, often sun soaked, give wines of power, structure and precision. Vinification uses indigenous yeasts for part of the cuvées, in tank and barrel, with careful oak management and low dosage. The wines show ripe yellow fruits, cherry, red berries, light honey, citrus, white flowers and warm chalk. The palate is broad, linear and structured, with fine bubbles, notable salinity and impressive length. Philipponnat’s style is noble, intense and sunlit, marked by the depth typical of Mareuil.
