Domaine Charles Joguet, based in Sazilly in the Chinon appellation, is one of the Loire Valley’s most influential estates and a benchmark for cabernet franc. Founded in the 1950s by Charles Joguet, an artist turned vigneron, the domaine pioneered a parcel driven approach that highlights the ability of cabernet franc to express subtle differences in tuffeau, gravel and clay limestone soils. The wines show raspberry, red cherry, gentle bell pepper, peony, crushed leaf, graphite and occasionally forest floor or blond tobacco. The palate is linear, fresh and elegant, with refined tannins and the trademark Chinon tension. Single parcel cuvées such as Les Varennes du Grand Clos or Le Chêne Vert offer greater depth, structure and aging potential. The Joguet style is pure, precise and vibrant cabernet franc focused on finesse.
