1931 was a very difficult vintage: cold, rainy, and late. Spring was long and wet, summer was cool with little sun. Ripening was slow and incomplete. The late harvest, disrupted by rain, produced diluted juices. Reds are thin, herbal, and lack structure. Whites are acidic, lean, and rarely expressive. A weak vintage, defined by gloom and delay.
