Domaine Thierry Allemand, located in Cornas, is one of the most admired and sought after estates in the northern Rhône, now considered an icon for lovers of pure syrah. Beginning in the 1980s, Thierry Allemand reclaimed abandoned parcels on the steep granite slopes of Cornas, working almost alone and with monastic rigor to revive a style of Cornas that is vertical, vibrant and uncompromisingly pure. The wines, from very old vines and massale selections, show wild blackberry, raspberry, violet, pepper, smoke, black olive and warm stone. The palate is dense and deep yet remarkably lifted, defined by granite tension and fine, firm tannins of great nobility. The two flagship cuvées, Chaillot and Reynard, have become cult bottlings, each expressing a different facet of Cornas at its most sincere and alive. Allemand’s style blends raw energy, absolute purity and a wild elegance that ages majestically.
