1965 was a weak vintage, cold and rainy, with insufficient ripening. The summer was wet and lacked sunshine. Reds are thin, acidic, often disjointed. Whites lack brilliance and structure. Overall, it was a failed year with very few wines of interest, except for a handful of rare exceptions.

Burgundy: thin reds, diluted whites
Bordeaux: weak, green tannins
Rhône Valley: dull both north and south
Loire: green reds, flat whites
Alsace: unbalanced
Champagne: acidic, lacks dimension

To Know
1965 is one of the weakest vintages of the decade. Best avoided, except for a few survivors from top terroirs with careful élevage.

Signature
1965 expresses climatic failure: hollow, fading wines without depth or lasting identity.
