Certan Giraud is a name that no longer exists as an active estate in Pomerol, yet it remains closely linked to the history and identity of the appellation. The property once occupied privileged parcels on the Pomerol plateau, where deep clay, fine gravel and iron rich subsoil created ideal conditions for merlot and cabernet franc. The style of Certan Giraud was marked by serious density, dark depth and a mineral tension typical of the plateau’s greatest terroirs. The wines displayed aromas of black plum, truffle, violet, graphite and fresh earth, with a generous texture and finely grained tannins that softened beautifully with age. In the mid nineteen nineties, the estate was divided, with parcels incorporated into Clos du Clocher and others joining Vieux Château Certan. Although it no longer exists as a unified property, Certan Giraud is still remembered as a meaningful chapter in the story of Pomerol.
