Renoir, based in Verzy on the Montagne de Reims, is a family domaine dedicated to expressing the chalky, tense character of this historic Grand Cru’s pinot noir. The vineyards, farmed carefully and sustainably, are mainly planted to pinot noir with some chardonnay. The outcropping chalk soils, cooler than the southern slopes of Aÿ or Bouzy, produce wines that are linear, floral and vibrant. Vinification uses indigenous yeasts in tank and barrel, with low sulfur and low dosage to preserve precision. The wines show red berries, redcurrant, fresh apple, citrus, white flowers and wet chalk. The palate is precise, lifted and saline, with fine bubbles and a taut, mineral finish. Renoir’s style is pure, subtle and bright, shaped by Verzy’s cool chalk driven identity.
