Aurélien Lurquin, based in Chamery in the Montagne de Reims, is one of Champagne’s most confidential and cult admired growers. Working tiny biodynamically farmed parcels, he vinifies with no additives and a deeply artisanal, intuitive touch. Elevage takes place in barrels, long and slow, with no filtration and zero dosage. Each cuvée is a micro expression of terroir, often from a single plot or single year. The wines show ripe apple, quince, white flowers, light honey, dried fruits and wet chalk, with occasional gentle oxidative notes intrinsic to the style. The palate is broad, vibrant, saline, with fine bubbles and marked mineral depth. Lurquin’s style is pure, stripped down, intimate and among the most emotional expressions of Champagne.
