Château Montrose is one of the great monuments of Saint Estèphe, defined by sculpted power, impressive mineral depth and a straightness that makes it one of the Médoc’s most serious and long lived wines. Situated on a large slope of deep gravel over clay limestone subsoil, the vineyard benefits from a cool, late ripening terroir whose natural rigor gives cabernet sauvignon a firm, dense and highly structured expression. Montrose’s style is marked by intense aromas of blackcurrant, deep blackberry, dark plum, pure graphite, cedar, noble tobacco, black truffle and sometimes fine pepper or warm stone. The palate is massive and straight, driven by powerful, tightly knit tannins of exemplary precision. The finish is long, firm and almost solemn, shaped by the earthy freshness characteristic of Saint Estèphe. With age, Montrose gains majestic complexity, combining controlled power, dark nobility and a structure that seems almost indestructible. It stands as a wine of authority, longevity and stern character, one of the Médoc’s great classics.
