Domaine Neyret Gachet, now long gone, is one of the near mythical names of Cornas, remembered for its rarity and its fiercely traditional style. Active mainly from the 1970s to the 1990s, the domaine worked tiny parcels of steep granite arenas and produced uncompromising wines through whole cluster fermentation and long, simple élevage. The wines showed dark aromas of blackberry, cassis, black pepper, warm earth, black olive and sometimes a hint of noble animale. On the palate, they were tight, rugged, mineral and deeply structured, with firm tannins and raw granite energy that required long aging. With time, the wines evolved into complex Cornas marked by leather, game and deep spice. Neyret Gachet represents an older, wilder, deeply authentic vision of Cornas.
