Krug, founded in 1843 and based in Reims, is arguably the Champagne house with the most singular, architectural and musical vision of what Champagne can be. At Krug, every parcel is vinified separately as its own cru, and the core of the style lies in the meticulous blending of a multitude of oak fermented base wines, enriched by an extraordinary library of reserve wines sometimes more than fifteen years old. Oak is used delicately, in old small barrels, not for flavor but for structure, air and texture. The wines show aromas of ripe yellow fruits, brioche, dried fruit, hazelnut, candied citrus, pastry cream, spice and warm chalk. The palate is broad, deep and vibrant, with layered complexity and a length that feels orchestral. Krug’s style is rich, precise and utterly distinctive, a vision of Champagne as a grand vin shaped through masterful blending.
