Volnay 1er Cru covers about 132 hectares spread over some thirty climats ideally located on limestone slopes between 250 and 370 meters in altitude. The soils are brown, stony and shallow with clay in mid-slope areas. Pinot Noir here shows remarkable finesse. The wines are bright ruby in color with aromas of sour cherry, raspberry, violet, noble wood and a hint of musk. The palate is silky with fine tension, elegant structure and a persistent floral finish. These wines age beautifully for fifteen to twenty years.

Food pairings
Ideal with roast veal filet, stuffed quail, mushroom ravioli or truffle brie.

Good to know
Top climats include Les Caillerets, Clos des Chênes, Les Champans, Les Taillepieds and Les Santenots, some bordering Meursault’s best terroirs.
