Mark Angéli’s Domaine de la Ferme de la Sansonnière, located in Thouarcé in Anjou, is a landmark of the natural wine movement in the Loire and one of the most iconic producers of artisanal chenin blanc. Since the 1990s, Angéli has pursued rigorous biodynamics, tiny yields, full manual work and a deeply grounded, peasant like philosophy. The wines, whether dry or sweet, are vibrant, pure and textural. Aromas include quince, ripe apple, white peach, light honey, beeswax, flint and subtle floral notes. The palate is broad, salty, energetic and driven by a granular, powerful minerality. Cuvées such as Les Fouchardes and La Lune have become cult classics. Angéli’s style is free, luminous, profound, a sincere and uncompromising expression of chenin.
