Egly Ouriet, based in Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims, is one of the most iconic producers among the high end grower champagnes. Francis Egly has elevated the domaine to cult status with rich, deep, vinous champagnes driven by Grand Cru pinot noir and marked by exceptional mineral intensity. The vineyards lie mainly in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay, planted to very old vines often over fifty years old. Fermentation is done largely in barrel, ageing is long, dosage minimal or zero, and time on lees commonly exceeds four years. The wines show ripe red berries, black cherry, baked apple, roasted hazelnut, biscuit, beeswax and warm chalk. The palate is broad, structured and profound, with fine bubbles, impressive density and extraordinary length. Egly Ouriet’s style is powerful, pure and noble, a benchmark expression of Grand Cru pinot noir.
