Domaine Jean Louis Chave, located in Mauves on the revered slopes of Hermitage, is one of the greatest names in the northern Rhône and among the most respected estates in the world. For centuries, the Chave family has mastered the art of blending the numerous parcels of the Hermitage hill, each planted on granite, loess, clay or sand, each contributing its own nuance. The red Hermitage, made from pure syrah, displays deep aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, violet, pepper, black olive, graphite and warm stone. The palate is powerful, vertical and structured, with noble tannins and underlying freshness that allows for decades of aging. The whites, mainly marsanne with some roussanne, show light honey, beeswax, yellow fruit, almond and white flowers, with a broad yet tense texture. The Chave style is defined by harmony, balance and an unmatched understanding of the Hermitage terroir.
