Terroir and style
Côtes du Vivarais lies at the meeting point of the Rhône Valley and the foothills of the Massif Central. The soils alternate between limestone, marl, sand and red clay, with a cooler climate than the southern Rhône but more sun than inland continental areas. Red wines, mainly from Grenache and Syrah, show black fruit, garrigue, pepper, violet and occasional smoky notes. The palate is fresh, taut and structured with more tension than is typical in southern Rhône wines. Whites from Grenache Blanc, Marsanne or Roussanne display floral and citrus aromas with chalky minerality. The overall style is vibrant, honest and well balanced.
Food pairing
Côtes du Vivarais pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roast poultry, characterful cheeses, Provençal dishes and spiced Mediterranean cuisine.
Good to know
Côtes du Vivarais is one of the Rhône’s freshest southern appellations, thanks to the cooling influence of the Massif Central. This creates lively, digestible wines with distinctive tension.
Signature
Côtes du Vivarais expresses Ardèche freshness through a vivid, structured and bright style.
