1960 was a weak and cool vintage, marked by unfavourable weather. Spring was rainy, summer was cool, and the harvest lacked momentum. Ripening was incomplete, resulting in thin, acidic reds with little substance. Whites are slightly more regular, but remain simple and short. A dull year overall, with only a few exceptions in sweet wines.

Rhône Valley: green and lacklustre
Loire: dry reds, neutral whites
Alsace: simple and austere
Champagne: acidic, lacks volume

To Know
1960 is generally considered a failed vintage. Few wines aged well, except for some quality sweet wines. Best avoided.
