Domaine de Fonsalette, also owned by Emmanuel Reynaud, is one of the Rhône Valley’s most mythical and sought after estates. Set on sandy, clay rich and stony soils in the countryside of Orange, it produces uniquely expressive Côtes du Rhône known for delicacy, aromatic depth and the unmistakable Reynaud luminosity. The reds, dominated by grenache with syrah and cinsault, reveal wild strawberry, raspberry, gentle garrigue, white pepper, dried flowers and sometimes blood orange or fine leather. The palate is airy, silky and bright, with extremely fine tannins and remarkable underlying freshness. Fonsalette’s reds are often described as both deep and fragile, with a Burgundian finesse. The whites, produced in tiny quantities, show white peach, hawthorn, anise and a graceful texture. Fonsalette embodies a singular Mediterranean grace within the Rhône.
