1999 was a generous, complex and often underrated vintage. Some rain in September challenged harvest timing, but ripeness was generally good. Reds are expressive, ripe and often velvety. Whites are vivid, with good acidity and solid structure.

Burgundy: outstanding reds; bright, focused whites
Bordeaux: soft and accessible vintage, strong on the Right Bank
Rhône Valley: superb in the north; sunny, full south
Loire: pure and expressive chenins; light reds
Alsace: linear style with aromatic clarity
Champagne: good harvest; fresh, balanced base wines

Worth Noting
1999 is charming and complete, less flashy than 2000 but more balanced over time.
