In the steep slopes of the Combe de Savoie, where vines seem to challenge the mountains themselves, one man forever changed the destiny of an entire wine region. Michel Grisard is not simply a winemaker: he is a living legend, a craftsman of taste who revealed the profound soul of Savoie. In the early 1980s, he founded the Prieuré Saint-Christophe Estate, driven by a rare ambition: to produce wines capable of competing with the finest French crus. It was a bold vision, supported by uncompromising standards and an almost mystical sensitivity to nature.
Long before biodynamic farming became fashionable, Michel Grisard embraced this philosophy as early as 1994. His approach was based on a simple yet radical conviction: listen to the vine, understand the soils, and intervene as little as possible. Across barely 6 hectares, he prioritized absolute quality over quantity, producing approximately 20,000 bottles per year. This rarity now contributes to his legend: his wines are sought after worldwide and have become true collector’s items.
Owning a bottle signed by Michel Grisard is almost a privilege. Since his retirement in 2015, the remaining bottles available on the market have become extremely rare, reaching high prices and generating constant enthusiasm among knowledgeable wine lovers. Each wine tells a story: that of a terroir, a forgotten grape variety brought back into the spotlight, and a man in pursuit of absolute purity.
If there is one grape variety that defines Michel Grisard’s legacy, it is undoubtedly Mondeuse. Under his guidance, it reached an exceptional level of expression: depth, structure, elegance, and remarkable ageing potential. Some enthusiasts even compare his finest cuvées to the greatest Pinot Noirs of Burgundy — the ultimate recognition for a vineyard that long remained in the shadows.
Today, the estate is managed by the Giachino family, who respectfully continue the master's legacy. However, the wines personally crafted by Michel Grisard have now entered another dimension: that of mythical, almost impossible-to-find wines. For lovers of rare fine wines, discovering a bottle of Michel Grisard is to experience the very essence of viticulture — a meeting of land, time, and human genius.
